There are lots of instances where you'll want to be able to access your site while visitors/hackers still can't (such as doing final testing following an upgrade or cleaning a hacked database). You can use a password protected over-ride switch for this, so that for your current browser session your site is not seen as suspended, even though all other visitors will still get redirected to the down-for-maintenance screen. The sessions that this tool uses are totally separate from other sessions and use their own naming convention that won't conflict with any other software.
To turn your site off/on, all you need to do is change a config option in one of the files.
